DMDS Labs, or the ‘Yangaroo Skunk Works’ is a series of on-going projects that takes its inspiration from the infamous division of Lockheed Martin that worked on ‘off-the-books’ projects and produced some of the most interesting and progressive aircraft designs. While our projects are smaller in scale (and admittedly a little less cool) compared to stealth aircraft design; they are the latest, greatest or upcoming aspects of the DMDS system – either in concept or close to completion in an upcoming software update.
DMDS Connector – Broadcast Integrations Evolved
We spent the greater part of last year extending the functionality of our API to allow for easy third party integrations. Our platform has a lot of features for agencies, production houses and broadcasters. They can now choose to leverage platform features through our website and tools or programmatically via our API.
Many broadcasters (and other content recipients) told us that they wanted a customized quick and easy way to receive content utilizing the DMDS Platform. This needed to include our advanced QC tools and accelerated media delivery, as well as metadata acquisition and verification. Our response was utilizing our own API to build DMDS M.E. (Media Exchange), a brand-able portal that content owners can utilize to automate the receipt of media and metadata, leveraging the power of the DMDS Platform.
A natural extension of both DMDS M.E. and our traffic confirmation feature DMDS Reporter has been advancements in our management of the spot trafficking data which is often included with media delivered to stations. We’ve been working closely to fully implement BXF 2.0 within our platform and are in the midst of including a number of the key advancements being proposed in the BXF 3.0 specification (still under committee review with SMPTE). Coupled with our existing support for AS-12 (the delivery of integrated metadata in spots removing the need for slates), you have one of the most comprehensive end to end tools for agencies to deliver media accurately and expeditiously to broadcasters.
The evolution of these components has led to the creation of latest product extension, DMDS Connector. Connector (currently in development) will allow for the efficient transmission of buyer and seller data related to avails at a broadcaster, naturally integrating both the scheduling and media information that the DMDS Platform is already entrusted with. This will eventually include the ability to pass back playback data through the platform, extending the DMDS Reporter functionality to include proper airing of materials.
It is important to note that DMDS Connector is not a replacement for any established internal media buying or selling platform or tools, but merely the glue that integrates these systems while including the existing elegant media delivery and traffic solutions already available via the DMDS Platform.
These tools will increase transaction frequency, efficiency and accelerates integrations which may have otherwise taken months or years to complete. It also allows accessibility and options for all levels of broadcasters to implement complex and advanced broadcast management systems with limited or no additional cost.
New DMDS QC Features
- Client Side Closed Caption Detection: Our current QC reports inform you if captions are present and correct once uploaded, but this new feature will allow you to determine the proper presence of 608/708 captions before uploading your file to DMDS.
- 5.1 / Stereo Audio Configuration Confirmation: The platform will soon verify the proper audio configuration of Stereo and 5.1 files ensuring compliance with the metadata values entered.
- File Segmentation Verification: Our QC tools will soon verify that the SOM, LOM, EOM and Duration match what is stipulated in the metadata.
- General Metadata/Media Asset Verification: Per the previous two specific examples, we have been working diligently on extending the platforms ability to programmatically verify that the media provided matches the metadata. There are a number of additional small tools and utilities including AFD data and format type.
